Even Amsterdam wasn't always Amsterdam

When you think of a cyclist, the image that springs to mind is probably a Lycra-clad triathlete. But bicycles can be so much more than a sport. Cycling advocates have a saying "Bikes offer the freedom that car commercials promise."

A bike easily triples the distance a person can comfortably cover within a walkable city without making any sacrifices when it comes to sustainability. They require almost no parking space, are quiet, do not pollute, and don't endanger pedestrians. Roads designed to be cyclist-friendly are safer for everyone.
